How to test a USB joystick or flight stick online
Connect the joystick directly, press any button, and move the main stick through its complete X and Y range. Test the twist axis, throttle, sliders, hat switch, trigger, and base buttons one at a time. The axis numbers come from the browser mapping and may differ between DirectInput-style devices and standard gamepads.
- Release the stick to inspect the resting center value
- Move each axis slowly to find jumps, gaps, or clipped travel
- Hold every button long enough to confirm a stable input
How to read joystick axis center, dead zone and range values
Most centered axes rest near zero and reach values near -1 and 1 at their ends, but throttles and combined axes can use a different range. A small center offset can be normal sensor noise. A repeatable offset that affects a game should be compared with the dead-zone and calibration controls in the operating system or device utility.
Test flight stick throttle, twist, hat, and buttons
Flight controls often expose more axes and buttons than a typical controller. Watch which row changes as you move only one physical control, and record that mapping before configuring a simulator. A hat switch may appear as buttons or as an axis depending on the driver and compatibility mode.
Fix a joystick that is not detected or reaches the wrong range
Try another USB port, remove unpowered hubs, verify the device's PC mode, and check the operating-system controller panel. If an axis works there but not in the browser, test another Chromium-based browser. This page reads input only and cannot write calibration values or firmware settings back to the joystick.
