Why is my controller not detected by the online tester?

Browsers usually reveal a gamepad only after a real input. Connect with a known data-capable USB cable or pair Bluetooth in system settings, open the tester, and press a face button. If it remains disconnected, reload the page, close software that may claim exclusive input, and confirm that the controller appears in the operating-system game-controller panel. Chrome, Edge, and Firefox generally provide the broadest Gamepad API support.

Can Controller Checker test PS5 DualSense adaptive triggers?

The standard Gamepad API can show L2 and R2 trigger travel and may expose a standard dual-rumble actuator. It does not provide a reliable cross-browser command for DualSense adaptive trigger resistance or the complete advanced haptics system. A missing adaptive effect on this page is therefore a web-platform limit, not proof of failed hardware. Use an official PlayStation tool or a supported game to confirm those features.

How accurate is the controller polling rate test?

It is a browser-observed estimate based on Gamepad API updates, timestamps, and animation frames. It is useful for comparing the same controller, browser, and computer across USB, Bluetooth, or 2.4 GHz modes. It is not a raw USB analyzer and does not measure complete end-to-end input lag, which also includes controller scanning, operating-system scheduling, game processing, rendering, and display response.

How do I check controller stick drift online?

Open the stick drift test, place the controller on a stable surface, and leave both sticks untouched for several seconds. Watch the center coordinates and drift hint, then rotate each stick through its full range and release it again. Repeat after reconnecting and compare the result with the dead-zone setting in your game. A persistent offset that causes movement is more meaningful than a brief, tiny fluctuation.

Does Controller Checker upload controller data?

No. Live button, axis, trigger, and controller ID values are processed in the browser. The site does not require an account, remote controller telemetry endpoint, or stored test history. Normal hosting requests can still create technical logs such as IP address, requested path, browser type, and timestamp. Optional copied reports go to your device clipboard only after you choose the action.

Which controllers does the gamepad tester support?

It supports devices exposed through the browser Gamepad API, including many Xbox One and Series controllers, PS4 DualShock 4 and PS5 DualSense pads, Switch Pro Controllers, Joy-Con, 8BitDo, GameSir, and generic USB or Bluetooth gamepads. Button labels and advanced capabilities can vary by browser, operating system, firmware, connection, and controller input mode.

Can I test a controller online on a phone, tablet, or Mac?

Yes when the browser and operating system expose the connected controller through the Gamepad API. Pair the controller in system Bluetooth settings before opening the page, then press a button. Mobile browsers can have stricter input, haptic, and motion permissions, while Safari may expose fewer vibration features. For the most complete diagnostic, compare a current Chrome, Edge, or Firefox browser on a desktop computer.

What is a good analog stick drift or dead-zone result?

There is no universal percentage that proves every controller is good or defective. Sensor noise, firmware, browser mapping, remapping software, and game dead zones all affect the visible value. Look for a stable center, smooth movement, balanced range, and no unwanted action at your normal in-game dead zone. Repeatable directional offset across browsers and connection modes is stronger evidence than one isolated reading.

Can an online controller calibration test fix my joystick?

A browser page can visualize center, range, circularity, and dead-zone behavior, but the standard Gamepad API cannot write calibration values to controller hardware. Use the result to compare before and after states, then apply calibration through the console, operating system, Steam Input, Xbox Accessories, PlayStation tools, or the controller manufacturer's utility when supported.

Why does my controller vibration test not work in the browser?

The controller must expose a compatible vibration actuator and the browser may require a recent button press or click before sending an effect. Support also depends on the driver, connection, firmware, battery, operating system, and browser. Try USB and a current Chromium-based browser. Device-specific systems such as Switch HD rumble, DualSense advanced haptics, adaptive triggers, and full racing-wheel force feedback are not consistently available through the standard web API.

Why are Nintendo Switch and Xbox controller buttons shown differently?

Nintendo and Xbox place A, B, X, and Y in different physical positions. Browsers often normalize a controller to a standard gamepad mapping, so a correct Nintendo controller can look swapped on an Xbox-style diagram. Third-party controllers can also expose different layouts in Switch, XInput, DirectInput, or PC modes. Verify which physical control activates and choose the matching profile in your game.

Is controller polling rate the same as input latency?

No. Polling rate describes how frequently input reports become available, commonly expressed in hertz or milliseconds per report. End-to-end latency includes additional stages such as physical switch scanning, wireless or USB transport, operating-system scheduling, game logic, rendering, display refresh, and pixel response. A higher polling rate can reduce one component but does not guarantee a faster complete response.
